Today, we have completed twelve medical missions, performing hundreds of operations on orphans from all over China. Volunteer doctors, nurses and technicians from hospitals all over the United States have corrected cleft lip and palates, performed skin grafts, orthopaedic, urological and general pediatric surgeries.
On every medical mission, we join forces with orphanage doctors and nurses. In spite of language barriers and cultural differences, we work toward the same goal of helping children in need. Together, we operate on very small children as well as adolescents who have endured a lifetime of stigma and pain.
For the children, these missions represent the moment when their dreams to live more normal, productive lives came true. Ma Dong Mei, is an 18-year-old girl, who suffered from acute, chronic pain caused by a degenerative hip. After her surgery during one of our missions, she was pain-free for the first time in her life. She told us that she considered herself "the luckiest and happiest person in the world."
