Gift Surgeries - Zhou Duo Duo

We met Zhou Duo Duo, a three year old with a cervicothoracic myelomeningocile, during our mission to Hangzhou. Duo Duo’s congenital condition is caused by an improper formation of her spinal column which resulted in an opening that allowed part of the spinal cord and nerves to escape and form a mass on her back. Children with this condition are very prone to paralysis and deadly infections from meningitis and usually do not survive their second birthdays unless they have surgery. Miraculously, Duo Duo is not paralyzed and has not died from infection. But she must have surgery as soon as possible to close the opening. CCPF arranged to have Zhou Duo Duo brought to the United States for the surgery after determining that we could not perform the procedure during our mission.

Zhou Duo Duo will be coming to the U.S. soon and will be adopted by Dorothy and Mark Conguista and their family. Once Zhou Duo Duo is adopted by the Conguistas and brought home, she will go to Children's Hospital of New York-Presbyterian for her operation. Dr. Neil Feldstein, a neurosurgeon has agreed to perform the surgery without charge.  The Children's Hospital also has agreed to provide free care for Zhou Duo Duo.   We are all very excited that Zhou Duo Duo is finally coming home to a wonderful family and a new life.
